For boys, this ritual is usually done after 12 solar cycles or 13 years of age. It marks the time of their moving into adulthood, the start of making their own decisions such as which spiritual path to follow.
It is helpful to dedicate this rite to the recognition of the changes that he goes through, as a way to provide support to the young boy who may be going through difficult and confusing changes and emotions.
For girls, the Coming of Age came at their first menstruation. For some that could be as early as 9 or 10 and as late as 14 or 15. But during the old days, this was a celebration of life. The Coming Of Age ritual is a confirmation of faith: A testimonial of a young person who has been exposed to several beliefs and spiritual paths, but has chosen to follow the path of the pagan. It is a time where a young woman can learn about the balance of feminine energy and her own masculine energy within.
Croning and Saging are rites of passage for women and men, respectively, who are entering into their older years. Generally speaking, a woman enters her crone stage around the time when she begins menopause. Saging for men would also occur sometime around the mid-50′s or retirement. This rite marks the time when one can enjoy the fruits of one’s labour, and perhaps be considered an honoured elder of their community, passing on knowledge to others.
The joining together of two people in love, regardless of sex, is a very joyous event. Many Pagans choose to make their joining legally, and there are some Pagan ministers who are legally capable of performing such marriages. Other Pagans choose a temporary (year and a day) or life-time handfasting which is not legal recognized.
Handparting is the Wiccan version of separation or divorce. With a Handparting, a Handfasting can be ended before its allotted time (i.e. a year and a day or for life), or this rite can be used at the end of a Handfasting to more formally end it. Of course, as with a wedding, this is not a legal replacement for a divorce, and is only truly recognized within the Wiccan and Pagan community.
The rites performed at death can either be in remembrance of the person who has died, or passed over, or can be for those who are left behind. The rites can be a celebration of the person’s life, or a somber remembrance of everything they did and what they meant to others.
Wiccaning is the term commonly used for the baby welcoming rite. The baby is welcomed into the world and into her new incarnation, similar to a Christening. Rather, the parents are asked to watch over the child until she is able to make her own decision about which spiritual path to follow.
The Coven members honour Lady Luna at Dark Moon or Full Moon once a month. We hold Wiccan ritual to revere the Old Gods and become one with Divinity. Within these rituals we become eclectic adding a bit of spice to traditional Gardenarian Wicca.
Pagans and Wiccans around the world celebrate the eight Sabbats, or holidays, as the Wheel of the Year turns. The Sabbats are Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas or Lughnasadh, and Mabon. The Pagan and Wiccan holidays are based upon agricultural and astronomical markers, such as solstices, equinoxes and planting/harvest dates. Some of them are the same each year, and others tend to change, based upon the earth's rotation. Feel free to browse our Sabbat tab at the top.
